Story[]
Arcanis Pyronis was wielded by a pyromancer named Ethan, who uses his strong abilities with all his might to defend his hometown. Everyone in his hometown calls him a “protector” or a “hero” because every night, some of Zaroth's undead soldiers, bandits, and even pirates would attempt to raid the town.
Ethan lived in a huge kingdom called Ashborne where a few council outposts were built inside. The kingdom is almost near a beach and a mile away from an active volcano called Mount Sacrifice, a place where people collect materials, especially after it erupts. Before he first picked up the burning Ancient Art, he was magicless, meaning he couldn't become powerful like many others. The only weapon he had for protecting himself was just a weak, worn-out sword.
Five days before the volcano first erupted, a mysterious gift-giver with the power of gifts appeared in the kingdom, announcing to everyone that he is hosting a sword fight competition for people with no magic, providing whoever wins with a gift from the gods; They had to participate at the platform in the middle of the volcano crater. Some of the people don’t believe him, and some are afraid that it will erupt during the fight... But most of them wanted to participate no matter what. After the gift giver left, Ethan got right to work and tried to forge the best weapon and armor possible.
Right when the day the volcano was going to erupt dawned, everyone who wanted to participate walked into the volcano crater with every bit of gear they had. Ethan was so ready that he imagined what the gift received from the gods would be. The gift giver welcomed everyone to the crater and reminded all to prepare their weapons. By then, everyone was in their spot and unsheathed their weapons.
The battle begins...
Everyone charged toward each other right away with their forged blades, and young Ethan didn't know what to do other than run around until he bumped into an opponent. Said opponent unsheathed his huge sword and attempted to cut him in two with it. He knew that there was no joking around here and that this entire situation was deadly serious. So as he was threatened with death, with his best-forged blade, he made his first attempt to get close and steal the best hits rather than focusing on defense.
In the end, he was victorious... for now. Still wounded by his victim's huge sword, he looked back... But what he saw was that there was nobody left... except one: A tall and imposing brute with a massive axe, an even bigger shield, and heavy armor. Ethan felt the dread of doom just looking at him: Real edgy and giving the impression of great power being hidden away until now... Cheating. So Ethan was challenged with dodging every attack the heavy knight made and swing his sword at any chance he got... But every swing never seemed to deal damage to the bulky monster's armor.
Suddenly, everyone felt the strong earthquake of the moment lava exploded around them. Furious magma blasted right below the heavy knight, who fell right into the scorching lake. The gift-giver came back and says that Ethan had technically won the battle... But there was one more thing Ethan had to do to prove his worth of the ultimate victory: Survive the Volcanic Eruption.
Ethan tried to run but felt as if he was moving slower than before because of his gushing wounds and ragged gear. A minute later, an ear-shattering boom sent the boy flying out of the arena... as the volcano finally erupted.
Ethan saw what looked like huge chunks of molten rocks falling from the sky, demanding all below to take shelter. Pure luck was to blame for him finding a cave and hiding beneath it. In just 30 minutes, eternity as it felt for him, Ethan emerges to find that chunks of rock were no longer raining from the smoky grey clouds. All that remained of the eruption was a wyrm of smoke, the sky darkening from the billowing cloud of sulfur. Ethan continued to run back to his kingdom to eventually find the gift giver standing by the entrance.
”Congratulations! You... ultimately deserve this gift from the god.” Said the gift giver.
”But... How? I haven’t escaped from the eruption.” Ethan replied.
The giver just smiled. ” As I said, the volcano exploded already. Now it’s setting the ashes free!”
”How did I win? How did I survive the eruption? I thought I would die because of that!”
”Maybe it’s because you... were deemed worthy. Maybe you used your great technique by accident? Who knows?”
”Heh, guess I was worthy for the gift.”
”If that’s so, lend me a hand and I’ll give you this gift from the gods... Oh, and use it wisely. I know you're good at heart, don't betray it.”
Ethan obediently opened his hand in front of the gift giver, who took them in his own. Right that moment, a burning sensation went through Ethan's body. Not a painful burning sensation, though... More like the burning sensation of divine heat and fire running through his veins with the mere touch from the giver. Power overflowed through him, an intense feeling he'd never experienced before... By the time their hands departed, Ethan's powerless self gave way to a new, mighty Ancient Art; The only one that can manipulate the burning flames and the scorching magma.
"I embue you with... Arcanis Pyronis!" The gift giver announced. "The Ancient Art that will give you the power of flames!"
”I... guess thanks?” Said Ethan.
”Enjoy your new gift, little man. You've earned it!” Said the gift giver.
Ethan continued to walk into the kingdom before night slipped in. And as he got there right on time, he didn’t say anything. He only cared about his wound and was on the search for a place to recover. Now, it was midnight, and Ethan was still awake, looking at his wounded body... when he heard a concerning explosion; A group of hostiles set a raid upon the kingdom, fighting with the guards. Ethan dashed outside and to see what was going on... only to be slashed in the back by one of the raiders. Ethan still didn't know what the power he was just given was all about, and he was also unarmed. Thus, he could not defend himself. Not turning back to face whoever attacked him, he began to run, and would only keep getting hacked, burned, and impaled by the invading bandits left and right, with no way to escape.
They were here for his Ancient Art.
And it was upon that realization that, by the time he was cornered and inches from death's door, his powers flared up at last and pulled him under control. With one blast, Ethan burned away all the unprepared raiders around him before seeing the determination and courage he needed to drive out every raider he spotted in the kingdom and burn down their pirate-esque ships to prevent escape. Something even told him he could use flammable objects for more devastating effects.
It was as if... his new magic was talking to him... Giving him advice.
At last, the raid was over, and it seems like the raiders have retreated, at least for now. Uncertain of whether or not they would return more prepared, Ethan then finally dragged his bruised, bloodied and weak self back to his home... then looks back to see the destruction he'd caused himself; There were scorched buildings, burning corpses, and lava spills everywhere.
He didn't know what happened then until a few days later when he saw the volcano again and discovered that this "Arcanis Pyronis" he was given was the Gift from the Gods that was promised. Many days passed and to this day, he uses his fiery magic abilities to defend the kingdom, trying his best to save everyone’s lives. Now, the kingdom considers him as a protector... and their hero.
