Darkness (ダークネス/Dākunesu), or Shuyō no Yūutsu (主要の憂鬱) as it's properly called, is a Rare Element. Its color palette consists of various (Mostly dark or dull) shades of green, grey and black. Its medal depicts a bat.
Darkness is a glass cannon-type Element that works best at close-mid range, with fast and hard-hitting spells to boot, allowing the user to blow away enemies with ease. However, it also lacks much defensive ability.
This Element can be obtained by first defeating the boss Chrono in the Phoenix Tail Coliseum at the end of Book 1, then searching for the secret puzzle in the Storm-Swallowed Plains map with the hints he gives you. Once completed, you encounter a statue of Umbrakirai, which he speaks and gives you 3 quests through. Once all three quests are completed, you will instantly be granted with the Element with no Diamonds needed to be paid.
Summary[]
Darkness is a deadly Element that dominates close and medium range combat, whether against a lone foe or a horde of enemies. Its fast and powerful spells can be great in combos as well, especially since most have low Mana costs and allow the caster to move around while casting and can even be used in midair to strike airborne enemies or attack from above. With enough skill and practice, anything that gets too close can be torn apart in seconds with a quick burst of spells. However, if you're given the choice to assault a faraway foe, don't. Most players tend to stay far away from their opponents, so most of Darkness' spells won't be of much suffice. Additionally, the Element is poor at close-range defense, and can leave you open to attack a lot of the time, especially if you miss. Luckily, its Subelements provide ways to close the gap between you and your target, or dodge incoming attacks.

Lore[]
Shuyō no Yūutsu (Also known as Shuyō no Yin) is one of the two Elements of Balance, and the flipside of Shuyō no Kagayaku. As the Element of negative energy, night, coldness and danger, the energy it all culminates into with this Element takes the form of and unpierceable darkness, a powerful force of shadow and gloom that renders even torchlight futile, growing stronger and darker the more negative energy and spite is put into it, to the point where it can freeze even lava and shatter glass and ice, as well as cut through flesh like cutting cake with a knife. In Robloxian folklore, darkness presents more than the unknowns within the shadows through which one cannot see. A gloom that obscures one’s vision is a warning of despair, a sign of freedom, and a sign of lostness. Performing a complex ritual that plays with all these can grant you with the power to use this Element. Like Shuyō no Kagayaku, Shuyō no Yūutsu has been around for as long as the Roblox world has, and has played an especially important role in the Ancient Elemental War, including obscuring the paths of those still issuing threat, and warning travelers who come to the Warstone’s crash site (Now known as the Shattered Lands) about the dangers and hostilities that might still lurk in this world.
Likely since representing all negativity, many seem to see it as a symbol of evil, though this isn’t necessarily true. Regardless of its power, any Element can be used for good or evil depending on the mage and their intentions. Most users of this Element actually use it for kindness rather than cruelty, including the Moon Spirit Umbrakirai, the divine sage with whom the Element was born. Its origins, like those of Umbrakirai and its counterpart Shuyō no Kagayaku, remain a mystery to this day. Because of that, several have tried experimenting with the Element and its shadowy energy, even attempting to see if they could use it to contact Umbrakirai himself since he is the founder of the Element. The first user emerged from the Dreary Overgrowth after a terrible airship crash which coincidentally happened during a ritual in the Crypt of Death, thus it is speculated that he was affected by the ritual, and that he is one of the few survivors of the crash. This Element doesn’t have many convenient non-combat related uses, other than to maybe obscure something one doesn’t want to be seen or escaping pursuing hostiles. Mainly, it is a ferocious combat formula, capable of tearing down everything in its path. However, as with Kagayaku, a few Elements have come able to control it, such as Genshi Hahen, Genshi Taigen and Shuyō no Mojiretsu. Users should also avoid coming into conflict with Shuyō no Kagayaku users, as something terribly destructive is known to happen if the two forces collide.
