Immorus (Often known as Immorus the Evil) is an essential lore figure in Elemental Battlegrounds Story Arc. He is first revealed as a silhouette on a mural found in the Dark Order, and also appears as Nightmare’s Ultimate. In Elementiverse, he sometimes appears in the Abyssal Bridge stage.
General Information[]
Immorus was the first evil being to appear in Roblox, as well as the very first of the nightmares. Having lived for 100 years before his death, he was said to be the strongest of all the nightmares, and thus their ruler and deity. During his life, he had grown to innumerable levels of power to the point where villagers were forced to flee upon mere sight of him in the moonlight.
Nobody knows how he came to be. When he first appeared, he was only a small, black skull with cruel magical abilities that fouled up the dreams of those who saw him once. With every bad dream a person had, he grew stronger, and soon more nightmares began appearing in the night. At first, the nightmares were generally seen as a nuisance or pests, which required mages to get rid of, but as Immorus lived for longer and grew more powerful with people’s foul dreams, so did all lesser nightmares, who began striking terror into even those once trained to exterminate them; They began taking more bloodcurdling forms, shapes and sizes and more and more nightmare types began appearing until, at long last, Immorus finally reared his big head and started wreaking both physical and mental havoc.
He was eventually killed by the Spirits of Order, who then banished him to oblivion. However, his soul escaped years later.
Appearance[]
Immorus is roughly 95 feet tall in full height (In the Brick Man height zone). He issues the form of a black, legless humanoid skeleton with sharp-edged ribs with spikes along their surfaces, wide shoulders with large curved blades, and sharp claws. His head is similar to Malmonger’s with a lower jaw larger than the rest of the head. However, he has a single row of sharp teeth on both jaws, two satanic horns, empty eyes with glowing purple pupils, and a third eye on his forehead with a swirly pupil and four shadowy tentacles emerging from it. He is somewhat transparent, is always surrounded by black smoke and has an orb of purple flames and energy inside his rib cage.
Personality[]
Immorus is incredibly dark, violent and cruel, seeing all living beings who do not share his powers as enemies. He is very careless and aggressive, using all methods available to kill whatever he wants dead. Not much else is known about his personality except that he is fairly similar to Malmonger in many ways. Personally, he considers himself above all and despises traitors and rebels, reacting unstoppably violently towards them and usually killing them on the spot. He is so consumed by hatred and fury that he is very easily provoked or irritated, and may go on a rampage for a long time before considering himself finished.
Abilities & Strength[]
Immorus is incredibly powerful, almost godlike as described by ancient locals. It is said that the Element he used was the same magic inherited and used by his successor Malmonger, who named it Jō Hametsu (Nightmare) in honor of the terror, chaos and destruction he had brought during his existence. Not much is known about the power Immorus used except it was highly destructive and chaotic, capable of wiping out whole towns in seconds as long as he was close enough. He was also capable of guiding and leading nightmares, as well as creating new ones with his bare hands. Immorus’ magic takes on the form of black smoke and lightning, purple fire and indigo energy.
Immorus, especially with his size, also wields immense physical strength and is nearly invulnerable to most magic. His bony body is extremely difficult to break or scratch. It is speculated that the Jō Hametsu Immorus used would’ve been considered a Hyperelement (Which was what Malmonger wanted to obtain it as before Cheriel attacked the medal) while he was its only user should it have been classified as one.
Quotes[]
- "We shall return." (At the end of the Doomsday Mural found in the Supreme Dark Hallway)
Appearances[]
Immorus appears as Nightmare (Jō Hametsu)’s Ultimate, Soul of Immorus, where the caster summons him and he attacks all enemies around them with three strong attacks that will leave victims stunned afterwards as he disappears. His silhouette also appears on the Doomsday Mural found within the Supreme Dark Hall in the Dark Order, which contains a statement made by Immorus himself about his suffering and views of the people of Roblox, implying that he might one day return.
Elementiverse[]
The Soul of Immorus may occasionally appear in the background of the Abyssal Bridge stage and chop the bridge in half, forcing players to fight atop the sides of the stage or they will fall. Afterwards, he will vanish into the pit below before the bridge repairs itself a while later. Any players hit by his attack will be sent flying and dealt 30% damage. Sometimes he will roar before doing this, dazing all players who are too close to him when it happens.
Lore Entries[]
(Lorebook Entry: Age of Immorus/Early Times of Nightmares 1)
In the Early Magic Period of Roblox, 20 years after the end of the first Elemental War, an explorer came back with a face pale with fear, only able to report seeing a floating black skull. The moment he saw it, it glared back at him and filled him with sudden, severe dread, making him feel dead inside as he left. This was Immorus, the first nightmare, whose origins are entirely unknown. After that event, more of these black skulls began appearing every time someone had a foul dream every night. In this time, the nightmares were horror and shock inspiring, but weak and easily exterminated. Thus, when they started to wreak havoc every night due to massive population growth and them reportedly causing damage to property, they became a common pest, and a nuisance. So the bravest magic mages in many towns became nightmare hunters, hired to hunt down and destroy any nightmare that was caught sight of, knowing how bad it would be if one lived.
(Lorebook Entry: Age of Immorus/Early Times of Nightmares 2)
One skull went unnoticed: Immorus, the first of them all, and thus the True Nightmare. With every bad dream a mortal suffered in their sleep, his power grew substantially to the point where he began to mutate, growing bigger and gaining arms, a legless body, and even scarier features. Eventually, the lesser nightmares began to sap strength from foul dreams as well, with some becoming larger, creepier, or sometimes both. A select few in every crowd also began to evolve from simple skulls to other skeletal forms, resulting in several new variations that were more difficult to overcome, let alone fight without the feeling of intense fear and shock, which had suddenly began scaring away the mages who were once trained to fight them off, leaving towns without defenses. The worst aspect about this whole situation was not that an army was starting to form, though that would be it if Immorus hadn’t finally become the massive, terrifying beast of an evil lord he now was, with nearly all of Roblox’ fear on his side.
(Lorebook Entry: Age of Immorus/Early Times of Nightmares 3)
The Brick Man civilizations were already in deep distress when a high priestess saw an enormous, vantablack skeletal beast with no legs, three eyes and spikes all over its body approaching her town. By then, it was already too late to do anything about it as Immorus opened his mouth not to say anything, but to engulf the town in nightmarish purple flames, eradicating it to the last stick of wood in 10 seconds. Immorus, with his still-growing power and army of nightmares and evil creatures, would curse several other cities, towns and civilizations with similar fates, all for the ultimate sake of spreading chaos, destruction and darkness across the entire universe, starting with all of Roblox. Thus, he became known as Immorus, the First Evil.
(Lorebook Entry: Age of Immorus/Early Times of Nightmares 4)
For a long time, Immorus seemed unstoppable. Wherever he wasn’t an overwhelming horde of nightmarish creatures was, mercilessly tearing at towns and citizens that got in their way. Where he was, it was even worse for those unlucky enough to be there. A small few tried to fight back, but their feeble weaponry did little to even scratch his pitch black, bony body, and most magic remained completely ineffective against him. However, when it seemed entirely hopeless, a dangerous ritual was held in a desert and an overgrowth, performed by groups of highly trained monks, which resulted in the summoning of the fabled Spirits of Order, Luxamare and Umbrakirai. Together, they took the fight to the cruel titan of destruction and terror once and for all.
(Lorebook Entry: Age of Immorus/Early Times of Nightmares 5)
In the aftermath of a 2-day long, treacherous battle that resulted in the demise of much more of the surrounding landscape, Immorus was eventually obliterated and his soul was banished into a supposed state of oblivion… but at a major cost. Both spirits used up so much power that they fell into a deep slumber and disappeared. However, as Immorus vanished from the world hopefully forever, so did his army, who disintegrated in the heavenly light. The destructive war between cruelty and righteousness had ended. Nightmares still appeared every now and then, but they were far less common and were much easier to destroy due to the absence of their king, making it so they couldn’t sap power from bad dreams anymore even if that was what usually created them. There was no general way to fully neutralize them for eternity. As all the destroyed civilizations began to rise again, as did newer ones, Roblox had never seen another evil ever again… for 100 years.
(Lorebook Entry: Immorus, The First Evil)
Immorus was the first evil to threaten Roblox, as well as the first of the nightmares to have shown up. Nobody knows how he actually came to be, but the very first form he ever took was the iconic, small black skull every nightmare is born as. Only when he was first seen by an unlucky jungle explorer did his road to ruin begin, starting to form even more nightmares who all grew stronger with every new nightmare created by someone’s bad dream. Immorus got the most out of this, and there was no dethroning him in power. Eventually, he put his ever-growing power to good use and started wreaking havoc on Roblox, both physically and mentally, destroying civilizations of all sorts and striking great fear and shock into all who saw him. A rampage that could’ve only been stopped by the Spirits of Order, who destroyed his body and sealed his soul in oblivion, eradicating his army in the process. To this day, even 100 years later, even the spirits themselves feared his eventual return.
Trivia[]
- The third eye on Immorus’ head resembles the one depicted in Nightmare’s medal, which might as well be a coincidence on Malmonger’s part since he intended the symbol to resemble the crest on his own chestplate when Cheriel left a hole in it with her shot, which was later filled with a swirl.
- Immorus bears much resemblance to Malmonger in terms of body shape and some personality traits, which might indicate that they’re either spiritually or biologically related or connected.
- Immorus is currently the second character to appear as an Ultimate, the second being the Queen Phoenix in Phoenix’ Ultimate, Queen’s Awakening.
- Immorus is one of 12 characters in both Story Arc and LoTWA who don't have symbols, the others being Amalthea, The Tangent, Exterminator 2000, Prometheus, Tengliu, Anubis, Moneta, Uzume, Takemikazuchi, Inari and Hachiman.
